The software

GerbView(tm) is an advanced but easy-to-use application that enables you to view, print and convert Gerber, ODB++, Adobe PDF, Excellon, HPGL/2 and other formats.

GerbView supports both RS-274D Gerber and RS-274X Gerber formats. It can also be used to convert Gerber files to RS-274X Extended format. This extended Gerber format includes embedded aperture information. It will make it easier to avoid errors when manufacturing the PCB.

GerbView’s ability to convert PDF files from Adobe to CAD allows you to convert them to Gerber DXF or Autodesk DXF.

Gerbview can visualize your design on the screen and in hardcopy. You no longer have to wait for a prototype circuit board to see your true design. To check apertures, distances, and tools with the query and measure tools, you can use them.

GerbView lets you create workspaces that contain files from the supported file formats. The workspace can be saved to be used later. You can save the workspace to be used later.

Markup elements like text, barcodes, arrows, lines, images, ellipses and polygons can be added to the workspace. All markup components can be burn-in and added to a Gerber layers. You can by using this feature easily add, for example, text or barcode images to a layer.

GerbView is able to rasterize single files or entire workspaces. It can also save to any of the supported raster format.

Prints can be scaled and in real size. All Windows-based plotters and printers can be supported. You can print large designs or drawings in poster mode (also known as tiled pages).

Software Companions GerbView consists of the following features:

  • View, print, markup, and convert Gerber, Adobe PDF and Excellon (PLT),
  • Convert Gerber and Excellon files, ODB++, ODB++, and HPGL/2 files into Autodesk PDF, Adobe PDF, and other formats.
  • Convert from RS-274D to RS-274X, known as extended Gerber format.
  • Convert PDF files to Gerber RS-274X or HPGL/2.
  • Convert multiple Gerber Files to a multilayer PDF. Read more about creating layered PDF files here.
  • Convert ODB++ to a layered pdf, or to individual files via Extended Gerber (RS274X), PDF DXF, SVG, or other formats.
  • Gerber X2 file attributes and pads attributes can be supported.
  • Markups are also known as annotations. You can use text, images, QR codes, barcodes and symbols to add markups.
  • Markup elements can be converted to native Gerber data using the markup-burn-in feature
  • Compare Gerber layers, and see the differences.
  • Remove a group of items from a Gerber loaded file.
  • You can delete items based upon aperture selection and usage.
  • Gerber apertures can either be used or selected individually.
  • Report aperture usage at all levels.
  • Command line conversion and printing is included.
  • Query entity information in Gerber, ODB++, HPGL/2 and Excellon files.
  • Measure distances, areas and perimeters, with or without snapping to pads and tracks.
  • Both imperial as well as metric units can be supported.
  • List and search for components in ODB++ files.
  • Highlight select apertures in Gerber or ODB++ files.
  • Multiple formats can be combined into one workspace.
  • There is no limit on the number files that can be placed in a workspace. However, memory limits may apply.
  • Visibility, rotation, scaling, mirroring and position of all loaded files can be set individually.
  • Copy a section of the display to a clipboard and then paste it into another Windows program.
  • Mouse-wheel is used for CAD zooming and panning.
  • User defined header and footer for printing.
