Microsoft Office XP was known in beta stage as Office 10 but is also known as Office 2002. This suite of Microsoft Office products is distributed by Microsoft for Microsoft Windows platform. This suite is the successor and predecessor of Microsoft Office 2003. You can also recognize it by its codename, ‘Office 10’. It was first released in the USA on March 5, 2001. In Europe, it appeared on markets on August 4, 2002. The ‘Mainstream’ support phase for Office XP expired on 11 July 2006, when Windows 98 and Me no longer were supported. Extended support ended on 12 July 2011. Office XP tools received the title of 2002, even though they had the suffix “XP”. Word 2002 was instead called Word XP.


The end to clippy

Microsoft Office XP’s marketing campaign included the elimination of Clippy (and other Office Assistants) as a default option. Microsoft knew they were very unpopular and unused in users’ lives. These features weren’t completely removed until the 2007 version.


Office XP & Windows XP

Microsoft Office XP came out the same year Windows XP. Despite these similarities, Office XP works with Windows XP. However, it is also compatible with Windows NT 4.0. Windows 98 SE and Windows 2000. Windows Me will not be compatible until the latest suite. Although it maintains some compatibility with Windows Vista, it is not compatible with Windows 7. It does not support Windows 95. Office 2000 is the last compatible suite for Windows 95.

Office XP will work on Windows 98SE 98SE Me, NT 4.0, Service Pack 6 and later, 2000, XP, and XP.


Memory (RAM)

  • Windows XP: Requires 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM for the operating system, plus an additional 8MB of RAM for each Office program (e.g., Word) running simultaneously
  • Windows 2000 Professional: Windows 2000 Professional needs 64MB RAM and an additional 8MB RAM for each Office program running simultaneously (e.g. Word).
  • Windows Me and Windows NT 4.0 require 32MB RAM to run the operating system. Each Office program (e.g. Word) must be running simultaneously requires an additional 8MB RAM
  • Windows 98 or 98SE: Requires 24MB of RAM for the operating system, plus an additional 8MB of RAM for each Office program (e.g., Word) running simultaneously


Hard disk space

Hard disk space requirements will vary depending on configuration; custom installation choices will determine the space needed. Below are the minimum requirements for Office XP suites.

  • Office XP Standard – 210MB hard disk space
  • Office XP Professional & Professional Specific Edition: 245MB Hard Disk Space
  • Additional 115MB are required for the installation of the operating system on the hard drive. Users without Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, or Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) will need an extra 50MB of hard disk space for System Files Update.


Display

Office XP Professional will require a Super VGA (801×600) or better resolution monitor with 256 colours.


CD-ROM drive

To install Office XP, you will need a CD-ROM drive.


Pointing device

To use Office XP you need a keyboard and mouse.


Requirements for speech recognition features

This is required for Office XP speech recognition (available only in English, Japanese, or Simplified Chinese)

  • Pentium II 400MHz processor or higher
  • 128MB RAM or more
  • A close-talk microphone
  • An audio output device
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later


How to Download and Install Microsoft Office XP

  1. After clicking the download button(s), you can finish downloading the files. This might take from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on your download speed.
  • Extract the files. For help, refer to this article. The password to extract will always be: www.mysoftwarefree.com
  • Open the “Software Files” folder and mount en_office_xp_professional_cd_x10-29102.iso
  • Run the setup and install Microsoft Office XP. When asked for a serial code, go into the text file called “SERIAL” and copy paste that code.
  • You now have Microsoft Office XP in its full version, with no limitations, on your computer.
