The software

Stata/MP can be used to analyze data in half to two thirds of the time as Stata/SE. It is faster than Stata/SE when using cheap dual-core laptops or quad-core desktops. Stata/MP works faster with multiprocessor-servers. Stata/MP supports 64 cores/processors

For computationally complex estimation procedures, speed can be crucial. A few Stata’s methods of estimation, including linear, run nearly flawlessly parallelized. This means that they run twice the speed on two cores. Four times as fast as four cores. Eight times as fast as eight cores. Some commands can be run more than others. As a median, estimation commands run 1.8x faster on 2 cores. 2.9x faster on 4 cores. 4.1x faster if you have 8 cores.

Management of large datasets requires speed. The parallelization of adding new variables and sorting is almost 100%.

Some procedures can not be parallelized. Other procedures run in stata/mp at the same time.
